Common Questions

Can you really help me?

If you are committed to your own growth, then I am committed to your needs.
To creating a safe space of deep support, where the work is as rewarding as the results.
Through caring insight, straight talk, and actual energetic work, we will confront - more profoundly than ever before - the obstacles to the joy and ease which is your birthright.
I have the expertise and energy to break through those obstacles.
My goal is for you to feel clear, peaceful and strong - truly alive.

If I ask you for help, does that mean I'm somehow weak?

Hmm. I might mention here that many powerful "inner circles" of the executive and creative elite actually brag about their therapists with each other, the same way they do their business partners or bankers or yoga teachers - as simply one more aspect of their commitment to personal excellence.

Real "weakness" is living with unhappiness; it is not having the courage to seek growth and change when you know it is the right thing to do. By sitting with me, you deeply honor yourself.

Why do you call it "Beyond Therapy?"-

I am a licensed clinical therapist, with extensive professional training and experience ( click here to read my bio).

But this IS NOT therapy, i t’s my own thing:

It’s an out-of-the-box, energy-healing, life-coaching, relationship-saving, therapeutic collaboration -

I don't wear a "professional mask." When you hire me, you get ME, the real Ray - passionate, caring, very human - and very committed to YOU!

And I will do things that therapists aren’t “supposed” to, such as:

I will give you advice

I will use the word “should” (as in “You should _____”)

I will use the phrase “have to” (as in “Now you have to _____”)

I will give you my opinions (Opinions are not the same as judgements. Healthy opinions are simply “place markers” that are always open to change, as they are continuously informed with greater understanding and empathy.)

And if we want to do a session walking around a public lake on a sunny day, for example, or if you want me to make a house call, or if we create an unorthodx treatment (such as me accompanying you into a crowded place if you are afraid of crowds, for example) than establishing our time together as coaching and healing sessions (rather than "therapy" or "counseling" sessions) eliminates having to consider various restrictions and paperwork that traditional therapists are subject to when they want to serve their clients in the most creative ways.

Our time together is results-focused –  the question is always: how are we making your life better?

(But I get that sometimes you just need someone to talk to. That’s OK too.)

I can't do the work for you - but I will do it with you -

And I will commit to your cause in a personal way, with passion, care, and commitment.

Together we’ll unfold how to harmonize with, rather than fight, this Great Mystery we are all a part of.

And make no mistake – we’ll probably discover some answers to that mystery as well.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” -William Blake

So are you a psychotherapist or a spiritual healer?

Yes - exactly!

Well, what's a Sufi Master Teacher, anyway?

There's a whole page on this website about that - click right here .

Is there a difference in quality between phone sessions and in-person or video sessions?

That's a great question! I wrote a whole other website page to answer that one - check it out right here .
(But the answer is - phone sessions are incredible!)

Is everything I tell you confidential?

Regarding confidentiality, I follow state law and professional ethics that require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations :

* Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threated to harm another person.
